The chronic treatment of patients with a beta-blocker is associated with prolongation of the atrial action potential duration (APD), potentially contributing to its ability to prevent atrial fibrillation (AF). This may involve pharmacological remodelling of atrial K+ currents which affect APD. This project aimed to test the hypothesis that various characteristics of human atrial K+ currents, including voltage, time and rate dependency, differ between patients treated and not treated with a beta-blocker.
