Abstract
Despite being a mainstay of continental educational discourse for centuries, the concept of pedagogical reduction has received only a little attention among Anglophone philosophers of education, although it is arguably a central feature of education. Inspired by the small, yet pioneering, body of work in this area, this paper aims to draw out, for an Anglophone audience, the as-yet unexplored ethical dimensions of pedagogical reduction as they are shaped by each of the discrete stages of the process – selection, simplification, and representation.
