Abstract
In recent years, there has been a surge in production of high-strength steel (HSS) due to market demand. Application of HSS has increased in the field of construction and heavy industrial equipment in order to optimise the product weight, with a focus on sustainability. An important feature is that HSS has higher yield strength than conventional structural steels, but lower ductility. Based on this, it is often assumed that HSS would perform better in terms of fatigue strength. However, this assumption requires additional validation considering manufacturing and environmental effects, where higher ductility would be more beneficial. This paper discusses the comparative analysis of the total fatigue life assessment of different steel grades (from low to high) assuming crack initiation and crack propagation.
