Abstract
This study presents findings from a Columba 1400 leadership programme tailored for senior Police Officers in Scotland. Columba 1400 is based on the principle that leaders are driven by their values. By thoroughly examining these values, it aims to facilitate a transformation in leaders’ beliefs, attitudes, and behaviours, thereby influencing their own wellbeing and that of their staff. Two cohorts of senior officers from Police Scotland took part in the senior leadership academy in 2023 (Cohort 1, n=16; Cohort 2, n=15). The leadership academy was funded by Police Scotland West, with the evaluation funded by Columba 1400. The University of Strathclyde undertook an independent evaluation to examine the experiences of participants as well as the impact of attending the academy on participants’ beliefs and values, leadership behaviours, and their own and staff wellbeing. The evaluation adopted a longitudinal qualitative approach where participants were interviewed at two time points after completing the academy. A total of 13 participants were interviewed in Time 1 (Cohort 1, n=8; Cohort 2, n=5) and 11 were followed up in Time 2 (Cohort 1, n=7; Cohort 2, n=4). The current report draws on data from Time 1 and Time 2 interviews.
