Abstract
This report examines absence management in social care organizations with a particular focus on the central role of line managers. Drawing on 25 semi-structured interviews conducted between 2022 and 2025 with HR managers, line managers, team leaders, and frontline care workers in the private social care sector, the research explores how absence is managed, the challenges faced, and the evolving practices post-Covid. It highlights both formal policy structures and the informal workplace dynamics that shape attendance management.
