Abstract

This introduction sets the stage for this Nottingham French Studies special issue on 'Women and Activism in the Francophone World' by highlighting the dynamic and evolving nature of feminist resistance. It underscores how feminist activism adapts to crises and cultural transformations, taking various forms such as political engagement, linguistic intervention, artistic expression, and postcolonial storytelling. The introduction emphasises that activism extends beyond visible movements, unfolding in symbolic, intellectual, and institutional spheres. It also highlights the role of cultural activism in feminist intervention, exploring themes such as rage as a political tool, the reclamation of genre conventions, and the contribution of sound and embodiment to feminist storytelling. By blending political, linguistic and artistic perspectives, the introduction illustrates the plurality and intersectionality of feminist activism, ensuring that resistance remains dynamic and deeply engaged with structures of power.
