Abstract

Our objective is to diagnose the main challenges of sustainable tourism in Spain and derive some useful public policy implications in this regard. To provide a basis for our diagnosis, we first discuss what the concept of “sustainability” means when applied to tourism and what dimensions it has. Subsequently, we propose a geography of the problematic areas of tourism in Spain. On this basis, we analyze the available evidence on some problematic issues of tourism in Spain and derive some implications for public policies.
