Abstract

The second edition primarily focuses on the concept of solidarity. We find solidarity to be a crucial component in the pursuit of DTC because it has to be a collective project that includes those with more visibility and power also committing to making and influencing meaningful change. The zine is designed to be an accessible resource which you can return to as many times as is helpful. The zine: 1. gives an overview of important terminology, introducing the concepts of coloniality and decoloniality; 2. outlines the concepts of empathy and intersectionality, which are foundational to the understanding of solidarity the zine seeks to promote; 3. suggests practical tools for educators, focusing on place-based learning, safe spaces, oral histories, and the use of language; 4. shares reflections on how to collectively practice solidarity in order to achieve a sustainable culture of DTC; 5. shares results from a survey of Humanities and Social Sciences students; 6. includes a link to an online reading list of all the resources used in the zine plus some further reading; 7. an invitation to share your examples of putting these ideas into practice in your subject areas and suggestions for future work.
