Abstract

DC distribution systems and technologies are becoming an enabler for MEA/AEA aircraft systems. In this context, arc fault detection devices (AFDD) have become a topic of interest for the aviation industry. Reliable operation of AFDDs can be affected by the changing characteristics of arc faults under different operating conditions and failure mechanisms. By characterising and carefully controlling the arc fault influencing factors, repeatable and realistic arc fault characteristics can be achieved leading to amore robust and trustable arc fault detection.
