Abstract
This submission draws evidence from research into the compounding impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic and immigration system overhaul on migrant women and families (2022-2024). GEN-MIGRA is an international study which worked across Brazil, Poland, Germany and the UK to examine the gendered vulnerabilities and migrant women’s agency in the face of intersectional inequalities. This submission presents evidence collected by the UK team through interviews with third sector professionals including legal aid and community practitioners, asylum seeking women and their families. Additionally, our submission draws from a four-year qualitative study led by Dr Käkelä which worked with 32 asylum seeking and refugee women to examine their continued vulnerabilities to female genital mutilation and other forms of gender-based violence in the UK (2017-2021).
