Abstract
Reliable and timely data collection is fundamental to understanding and addressing socioeconomic determinants of health inequalities. However, recent declines in survey response rates and limitations in traditional data collection methods have created significant challenges for those aiming to design effective policy responses. This discussion paper explores efforts to enhance survey research across the UK, with a particular focus on Scotland, ensuring social surveys continue to inform both understanding and actionable policies. Additionally, the paper examines how barriers can be mitigated while enhancing insights through alternative methods, data sources, and data linkage and integration—equipping researchers and policymakers with the evidence needed to drive effective interventions.
