Abstract

This guest post reviews the implementation of the CORE Recommender on Strathprints, the University of Strathclyde institutional repository. The importance of improving the interactive qualities of repositories is described as a key tool in promoting higher levels of user 'dwell time'. Dwell time is suggested as a superior metric to 'bounce' in the study of the web analytics of repositories, owing to the peculiar nature of the content served by scholarly repositories. Early results of log data indicate that deployment of the Recommender, alongside other 'whitehat' improvements, contributed to a 58% increase in user dwell time.
