Abstract

In the current international context of growing multipolarity and competitiveness among the main world economies for access to raw materials and natural resources, there is an increasing number of human rights violations related to massive environmental damages resulting from the operations of multinational companies. (EMN) This trend raises issues of global justice. Large-scale extractive projects that are carried out in developing countries with low (or nonexistent) standards of environmental protection and scarce institutional infrastructure to ensure their application, do not limit their 'negative externalities' to the impact on the local environment, but have a very significant impact on the enjoyment of basic human rights of local populations.
