Abstract

By adding more than three molar equivalents of pyridine to n-butyllithium, a new reaction has been, uncovered in which the novel bis(pyridine)dihydropyridyllithium dimer 1 is formed. The reduction process formally involves transfer of an in situ form of lithium hydride.
