Abstract

It is shown that the force associated with the normal component of the space charge electric field at the plasma surface, arising from the charge separation, can accelerate a charged dust particle that is sitting in the scrape-off layer (SOL) close to the chamber walls in tokamaks. The acceleration of dust particle is found to be proportional to the strength of the space charge electric field and inversely proportional to the square root of the dust mass density.
