This paper discusses emerging challenges for transmission utilities in respect of the analysis and management of the performance of power systems. Among these are greater uncertainty, the need for greater accountability, the complexity of interactions between different agents and opportunities to exploit new technologies. Responses to these issues are discussed and possible future orientation of the provision of analysis facilities is suggested.
