Abstract
Mobile communication devices are now truly ubiquitous in modern society, and as such they are the ideal tool for research into human social relationships. Using only smartphones with customised operating systems, and with no prior knowledge of the participants, we show that it is possible to accurately infer the existence of social ties between mobile phones users in a UK high school.
