Modern molecular diagnostics relies on a variety of different approaches. One that is increasing in popularity involves functionalised metallic nanoparticles as responsive nanobiosensors. Surface enhanced resonance Raman scatting (SERRS) use metallic nanoparticles of silver or gold to enhance the Raman scatting of the target. In this study, metallic nanoparticles are functionalized with a biomolecular probe (e.g. an antibody) to form a nanobiosensor. SERRS is achieved by attaching a reporter dye to the nanoparticle and biomolecular probe. These sensors can be used to analyze an antigen representative of a particular disease. This study focuses on the investigation of functionalized nanoparticles as responsive SERRS nanobiosensors for ultrasensitive analysis.
