Abstract
This paper uses data from the Scottish Young People's Cohort Study to investigate the factors affecting participation in post-compulsory education in Scotland. These surveys are a unique source of information on routes through school and on entry to higher education. The major aim of the paper is to estimate the effects of the structure of post-compulsory schooling and certification on participation rates. The main statistical technique is multilevel logistic regression. Another aim is the investigation of regional differences in participation in Scotland.
