Abstract
Pharmacological interventions in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases are well defined in the supporting evidence base, but practice implementation remains variable. Clinical audit of drug therapy use against evidence-based standards increases awareness of current best practice, identifies patients with apparently unmet drug therapy needs (care issues), and thereby informs multidisciplinary improvement strategies at population and individual patient levels
